Lynn at the start of a tour at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

As many as half of the people living in the Brooklyn area experience a dip in their moods during the winter months. Exposure to daylight, even on a cloudy day, can help restore energy, alertness, and contentment.

Join MDC Board Member Lynne Spevack, L.C.S.W., a licensed psychotherapist and veteran Brooklyn Botanic Garden tour guide, for an hour-long, outdoor, narrated walk designed to chase away the winter blues. Learn how to maintain a sunny outlook through dark, cold, winter days, and discover the plants and animals that enliven the garden landscape even in the dead of winter.

This season’s tour dates are:

December 7, 2014: Tree Silhouettes in the Winter Garden
January 4, 2015: Getting New Year’s Resolutions Underway
February 1, 2015: Lunar New Year in the Japanese Garden
March 1, 2015: Early Spring Flowers

The tours start at 1 p.m. at the old Visitor’s Center, next door to the 1000 Washington Avenue entrance to the Garden. The walks are included in the price of admission.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is located at 1000 Washington Avenue, with entrances on Eastern Parkway near the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Nearby subways include the 2/3 to Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum and the Q to Prospect Park. Dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes. The walks will be held rain, snow, or shine.

Lynne is a Midwood resident who maintains a counseling office near Brooklyn College. For more information, visit Chase Away the Winter Blues.
