The cold weather is upon us and for many the cost of heating their homes can be burdensome. If you need assistance paying your winter heating bills, or you know someone who does, there are programs that provide assistance to eligible customers.Council Member Chaim Deutsch’s District Office is a participating Neighborhood Heating Fund site. HeartShare’s Neighborhood Heating Fund runs December through March and helps those with elevated heating bills meet monthly payments. Council Member Deutsch is available to assist with Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and HeartShare applications.
“Programs are available for those who need it most, which enable residents to stay warm, and reduce heating expenses,” said Council Member Chaim Deutsch.
HEAP is a federally funded program that assists low-income New Yorkers with the cost of heating their homes. HEAP also offers an emergency benefit for households in a heat or heat-related energy emergency, for those who qualify, and have received a shut-off notice from their utility company.
“Individuals are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as these grants are distributed on a first come, first served basis.” said Council Member Deutsch.
