Home > Project Sweep: Supported Employment
The Avenue M/J/Coney Island Ave. team (L-R): Kevin McCarthy, Craig Lewis, Deshawn Watson, Alan Fraser, Andre Gittens and Denny Fernandez

In operation since 1990, Project Sweep is one of New York City’s oldest supported-employment programs. The majority of our Project Sweep staff are diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability. Each worker is assigned a Job Coach, who meets regularly in one-on-one meetings with workers. Project Sweep staff clean commercial streets and clean offices for local businesses, merchant associations, and business improvement districts. Some Project Sweep workers do messenger work or are trained as clerical/administrative workers. Project Sweep workers who are interested in employment outside of MDC receive coaching and assistance with job applications and interviews. They also receive coaching to support their success at their new job placements.

For information about becoming a Project Sweep worker, contact Jason Kellman, 718-376-0999. If you are a merchant or employer and would like to hire a Project Sweep worker, contact Barry Polinsky, 718-376-0999.
