News12 was on the scene as Queens-based artist Nicholai Khan completed one of two murals he is creating in Midwood. Khan, working with 501(See)(Streets) in partnership with Midwood Development Corp., began work in late June on the first mural at Murrow High School, 1600 Avenue L. We think the mural is a beautiful improvement to the school and the community as a whole. Click here to see the News12 coverage of the mural project, and see photos below. (Click individual images to enlarge.)
Not seen in the News12 piece is the completed scroll work, which reads, “…Because at Edward R. Murrow High School, We CARE about Our Students.” The motto is followed by the credits: “Midwood Development Corp. (MDC) funded this project. Funding was provided by the New York State Assembly, Former Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs, and the Midwood Merchants Association, MMA.”
Khan is also contracted to work on a second mural in Midwood, at Pizza Time, 1324 Avenue J. We’ll be sure to post photos as work progresses.
501(See)(Streets) is a 501c3 non-profit organization devoted to revitalizing and beautifying communities through the use of public art.
