New York City Council Member Chaim Deutsch is partnering with the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) to significantly increase free tax preparation services and annual tax credit outreach.
“Approximately one in five New Yorkers has not been receiving the tax credits they may be eligible for,” says Councilman Deutsch. “Many working families are entitled to a refund of up to $10,000, but they have not always been receiving these refunds because their tax returns are not always being filed properly. For many families, a tax refund makes a very beneficial impact on their financial circumstances.

Tax preparers will be on-hand to assist residents in preparing their taxes, and claiming the appropriate credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and NYC Child Care Tax Credit (NYC CCTC). DCA’s trained staff safeguards documents and uses a secure website for tax preparation. If your annual income is $53,000 or less (with children) or $18,000 or less (no children), then you may be eligible for income tax preparation assistance. For those who have an income of $60,000 or less and wish to file online with the DCA, visit nyc.gov/taxprep.
