Later this month, Council Member Chaim Deutsch will begin offering free tax preparation services to eligible residents, in conjunction with Grow Brooklyn.
The service will be available at Council Member Deutsch’s office at 2401 Avenue U on Sundays beginning January 22nd. Council Member Deutsch says he chose to provide this service on Sundays to accommodate those who may not be able to come out during the week because of work or family obligations. Appointments are available from 12 to 6 pm.
Those with income under $54,000 (with dependents) or $25,000 (single), or those self-employed with expenses of $5,000 or less are eligible.
Residents should bring:
- a government issued photo ID
- a social security card or ITIN for anyone claimed on the return
- all tax forms received (W-2s, 1099-R, etc.)
- documentation of higher education expense (tuition paid, loans received, student loan interest payments, student fees)
- child care expenses, provider information and tax ID number
- bank account information for those receiving direct deposit
