UPDATE: A community fire safety event, to be held in memory of the Sassoon children, has been announced. Please see details below.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————

We mourn the loss of the seven children of Midwood’s Sassoon family, who died tragically in an horrific fire late Friday night. The fire is being attributed to a malfunctioning hot plate, according to the New York Times and other news sources. FDNY officials also speculate that the house may not have had functioning smoke detectors. Members of the FDNY were onsite in the community Saturday, handing out fire safety information for Jewish observances. Please see the document here, where you can download and print a copy.
